FNMC FLUTE ARTIST COMPETITION 2022

The Flute New Music Consortium Flute Artist Competition seeks to recognize and encourage high standards of flute playing in contemporary performance. Contestants will submit entries to the recorded round by November 1, 2021, 11:59pm CST for consideration. Up to four finalists will be invited to the final round of the competition, which will take place at our New Music Festival at the University of Arizona on February 18, 2022. The final round repertoire will also feature the premiere of a newly commissioned work for solo flute by Cherise Leiter A cash prize of $500 will be awarded to the winner, who will also give the official premiere of Leiter's solo on a recital featuring a premiere performance of our latest consortium commission by Samuel Zyman on Saturday, February 19. This competition is open to FNMC members of all ages.

PRELIMINARY ROUND INFORMATION & REQUIREMENTS
- FNMC Membership - all flutists must be current FNMC members (a minimum of Performing Membership) at the time of application
- Completed application
- $25 entry fee (paid during application process)
- All entrants must submit their online application, including uploaded recordings/supplemental materials, and pay competition and membership fees by 11:59pm CST, November 1, 2022.
- The preliminary recorded round includes:
- Paul Richards' Yussel's Prayer - available for purchase online at https://www.paulrichardsmusic.com/catalog.html
- Any work for flute and piano, not to exceed 10 minutes in length (included pauses between movements). Multi-movement works are acceptable, but all movements must be recorded in a single take. Single movements or selected movements (recorded without pause) are also acceptable.
- Audio files must be mp3 or wmas and may not contain any identifying markings
FINAL ROUND INFORMATION & REQUIREMENTS
- Up to four finalists will be selected to compete live in the Competition Finals.
Flutists will perform the same work for flute and piano, of no longer than 10 minutes, as well as the newly commissioned work for flute alone. The new work will be provided at no cost to the performer a minimum of 2 months in advance.
Finalists may perform with their own pianist, or use the FNMC collaborative pianist for a fee (TBD).
Cash prizes of $500 will be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
